Terms of service
Draft — needs legal review before sale. Version 2026-10-15. Working terms for the development service; the parts in [brackets] are placeholders, and the whole text must be reviewed by a lawyer before Retro Stream is sold.
Who and what
These terms are between you and [legal name and address of the operator] (“we”) and cover the Retro Stream account service at retro-stream.io: signing in to the Retro Stream app and your Retro Stream boxes, reaching your boxes from outside your home, and inviting friends to play. A box keeps working on your own network without an account and without the service.
Your account
- You must be at least 13 [or the age of digital consent where you live] to have an account. Accounts are personal: one person per account.
- Keep your password, recovery codes and passkeys safe. We cannot recover an account whose password and recovery codes are both lost; a box you own can still be reclaimed with the setup code on its label.
- Usernames that impersonate someone or are offensive may be changed or removed.
Your boxes
- Claim only boxes you own or are allowed to manage. The setup code on a box's label proves possession; keep it private.
- Owners decide who else can use a box and what they can do. Before you sell or give a box away, release it (“Unclaim”) or transfer it on the website.
Your consoles, your console accounts
Retro Stream streams consoles you own, on networks you control. When you invite a friend into a party, they play on your console, signed in to your PlayStation Network, Xbox or Nintendo account — like a friend on your couch, and the same model as Remote Play Together and Parsec. You are responsible for following the terms of your console's vendor and of the games you play; some vendors restrict account sharing, remote play, or online play by people outside your household. Retro Stream does not check this for you. [Q8: check against each vendor's current terms before sale.]
Acceptable use
- Don't attack, probe, scrape or overload the service, other users or anyone's network — including through the relay, which only carries your own sessions.
- Don't use the service to stream content you have no right to stream, or to harass the people you play with.
- The service limits sustained heavy use automatically (sign-ups per network, relayed requests and relay traffic per account). A limit pauses that one feature for a while; it never touches your box on your own network. Contact us if you think a limit hit you by mistake.
Availability
This is a development service with no uptime guarantee; the current status is at /status. Features may change. Remote play depends on your internet connection and your network's ability to connect directly; when it can't, a relay is used within fair-use limits.
Liability
[To be drafted with counsel: the service is provided as is to the extent the law allows; nothing limits liability that cannot be limited, including consumer rights where you live.]
Ending
You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, after notice where we can give it, and may end the service with [notice period] notice — your boxes keep working on your own network either way.
Changes and law
We will post changes here with a new version date and tell signed-in users before significant ones take effect. These terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction]; [courts / dispute resolution]. If you are a consumer, the mandatory protections of the country where you live still apply.
